Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
Teach PCR in a completely new way!
Help your students to understand PCR with this colourful model. Students make models of Taq DNA polymerase and use it to extend primers on template DNA. They can carry out as many cycles as they like with the components provided.
They learn about the importance of Taq polymerase, that DNA is only synthesised in the 5' to 3' direction, DNA primers, the steps of PCR - denaturing, annealing and extension.
A useful resource to compare PCR with DNA replication using our DNA replication model.
Takes about 30 minutes. Dimensions: DNA template 35cm/14in long.
Includes full colour Powerpoint classroom presentation.
Download includes: instructions, colour and mono model templates and Powerpoint file.
All you need: paper, scissors and tape.
