Malaria is caused by the unicellular Plasmodium parasite that is spread by mosquitos. Plasmodium has a complex life cycle involving human and mosquito hosts. Our innovative model shows how this life cycle happens in a clear way. It also shows how sickle cell disease has played a role in protecting carriers from malaria in many parts of the world.
It covers: merozoite, sporozoite, oocysts, gametocytes and what happens during each step of the Plasmodium life cycle.
