Active transport made easy with our colourful model!

Active transport is used in many situations in biology. Unlike diffusion and osmosis it needs energy. Help your students with this important notion by making our model. Your students start by making their models of a root hair cell, small intestine and molecules & ions.

They then look at why active transport is needed in plant roots and our digestive system and how it works using paper ions and molecules.

These activities will teach them about glucose uptake in the gut, mineral ion uptake by root hair cells and also shows water uptake by osmosis. They will learn about diffusion gradients and how tissues are specialised for absorption. It also emphasises the difference to diffusion and osmosis.
