Show how braided streams get their distinctive shape with our model
Our model shows how braided streams form and how they change over time. First, your students make their models of a braided stream near the end of a glacier out of the colourful parts.
Download and print as many times as you want - forever at no extra cost!
Then they use their models to look at how the stream changes through the year. Higher summer temperatures cause more meltwater than winter affecting how much sediment the river can carry. The model covers bar formation, channel changes, how vegetation stabilises bars forming islands and the effect of the season on the flow through the river.
