Oxbow lakes are easy to understand with our fun model!

Oxbow lakes (billabong in Australia) are important habitats and water sources. Their distinctive U-shape forms when two river meanders meet leaving an oxbow lake behind.

Our model shows how oxbow lakes form due to a combination of erosion and deposition. First, your students make their model of four different stages of oxbow formation from a meander out of the colourful parts.

Download and print as many times as you want - forever at no extra cost!

They then use their models to look at how and why an oxbow lake forms. The model shows meanders, oxbow lakes, billabongs, river neck and the role of flooding.

Includes full colour Powerpoint class presentation!

Takes about 20 minutes!

Dimensions: 24cm x 15cm x 3cm / 9in x 6in x 1in

Download includes: instructions, model templates, and Powerpoint presentation.

All you need: paper & scissors.
