Show how floodplains develop by deposition with our colourful model!

Floodplains (or flood plains) are important for wildlife, human settlements and agriculture. Our model shows how floodplains develop over time. First, your students make their models of three stages of a floodplain's formation out of the colourful parts.

Download and print as many times as you want - forever at no extra cost!

Then they use their models to look at how floodplains develop as a river meander's across the valley floor. Meanders also move downstream flattening the floodplain. Flooding deposits sediment (alluvium) across the floodplain. Our model can even be used to show a flood.

The model covers floodplain formation by meanders, flooding, sites of erosion and sites of deposition.

Includes full colour Powerpoint class presentation!

Takes about 20 minutes!

Dimensions: 20cm x 15cm / 8in x 6in

Download includes: instructions, model templates, and Powerpoint presentation.

All you need: paper and scissors
